At least the Wings came back from 0-3 down to take it to a shootout. My only problem is that the game wasn't being televised while a Pistons vs Bucks game was. What's the deal with that? Wings biggest rivals and they don't even bother to put the game on? Oh well, at least some of us remember which team can win a championship in this town. I guess not winning isn't a way of getting put on TV (the Lions) but mediocre play, in which the fans really want a team to win it all, but know the team isn't good enough, a team that gives the fans a miracle to cheer for, thats what we elect to cheer for in Detroit. The Pistons are a desent team, but everyone knows it would take some amazing incredible miracle for them to win a championship this year, so we cheer for it. Everyone expects the Wings to win a championship, so we wait.
I say to the Wings: Continue to lay-off the dominance, as hardcore of a fan as I am, I can take an OK regular season, as long as it lands us in the playoffs. Destroying teams like San Jose 6-0 sends the right message; the Cup is ours for the taking.

To The Lions: I am sorry to inform you, but you are going to WIN tomorrow in Green Bay. I might not be a professional analyst, but if there is one thing I do know, if people are getting their hopes up on the Lions to do one thing, they will inevitably do the opposite. So here we go, 1-15, just another reckless terrible NFL team.

Prediction: Chargers Win

I'm picking the Chargers this week to crush the Denver Broncos. Smith discredits his own statistics based on the Lions record, but really I feel like he is wrong. As a rookie, on an 0-16 team, if he does break 1000 yards, that says more about who Kevin Smith is than anybody on the Lions. Earlier in the season he was benched for two games, and only played as backup, but now that he has come into his own, I think he will be a credible NFL running back for years to come. As much as I would love to have him in Detroit, I think it is in his best interest to go to another team, with an o-line, and an owner that gives a rats ass. If he does stay in Detroit, I see him being a bigger leader than Calvin Johnson, even though Calvin is amazing. My true feelings are that I hope we keep both Calvin and Kevin and use them as building blocks to realize what we need around them. In saying that, I know they need a lot. I hope no one is fooled about the quarterback position next year either. If we can get a good QB with that number one pick we should. Even if he plays one year behind Culpepper, would be better than not building for a future. Our team now sucks. If we go 0-16 this year, whats to stop us from going 0-16 next year? 0-16 proves you are bad, but once you drop out of the win column it's impossible to judge just how bad you are.

Think Ford Last! --Not Cars, Football.

Well, I was wrong. I thought Sunday might be the day for the Lions to win, but just like the rest of the year, they failed to do so. At this point in the season, its hard to believe the Lions won’t be finishing 0-16, but I still have a little hope. That little hope that I have lands in the chances that the Lions opponents accidentally take too much time off the game, before realizing that they are losing. It’s like Tampa, they allowed for the Lions to topple all over them for a quarter, and then blasted them for three. I am just waiting for the team that feels bad enough for the Lions that they wait too long to win. That’s our only hope for the rest of this year. Unfortunately the only good that can come out of this season will be change, but who knows if that will even happen.

It’s nice to see that this late in the year the Lions are still playing for something. Usually by this time of the season they have a mediocre amount of wins, and have secured the number 10 or 11th draft pick. F that, this year is a special year. Possibly the number 1 draft pick, maybe even a rational decision with that pick just based on Millen being gone the Lions are moving forward in a positive direction, thats hard to argue against. I still say screw the Fords, so don’t purchase Lions gear/tickets or anything, but support the Lions, start a blog, be a real fan! I am not sure the answer of what to do about the Fords, but I will write in protest for as long as it takes to make some real significant changes. It takes so much to win a the Stanley Cup that winning a second one is almost always impossible. Who was the last team to do it? Oh yeah, thats right, the Red Wings. If any squad could do it again, the obvious answer here is that the Red Wings will do it, but personally, I don’t really see it happening for them this year. As good as they are, and I do believe they are the most skilled team, the playoffs are about more than talent. When the playoffs roll around, goaltending becomes the number one factor to winning a Stanley Cup. Last year Osgood clearly posted the best numbers (link) yet at the end of the year everyone praised the defense and wouldn’t even categorize Osgood in the league of Hasek or Roy. That’s two championships though, how many did Hasek win? 1. And also if it wasn’t about goaltending last year and our defense was so sublime, how come Hasek had to be pulled in the middle of round 1 for Ozzy? This year the Red Wings don’t seem to have that spark in goaltending as Osgood seems to have lamented back to his days leading up to St. Louis, and Conklin, well, we just can’t say much about him yet, however I see the possibility of a more veteran goaltender (Nabakov, Fleury, Lungqvist) getting hot and leading their team all the way.

My one hope for the Wings is Marian Hossa, but I see him as a two way street, and only time will tell which path he leads. Last year, as great a player as he is, the Penguins couldn’t win with him. They did make it to the finals and lose to a better Detroit team, but who knows what type of catalyst Hossa will be in the end. Hopefully his sheer desire to win a cup can get Detroit past its feeble goaltending issues and right on their way to another victory parade down Woodward Ave.

Welcome to the Game -- The Onslaught of Frustration

ReportsSportsDetroit-- an actual Detroit Sports Blog. I realize that 97.1theticket blog is where most of the Detroit sports internet traffic goes, and I also realized that there really isn't a real FAN website that will call out owners, and really give fans an opportunity to have a stance in order to promote change. What we are seeing in Detroit right now is unlike any other time in our history. A looming 0-16 season, along with the falling economy that is killing the 'Big 3', we are facing tough times. I know it seems wrong to compare the Lions with peoples jobs and livelihood, but if you are from Detroit, or Michigan, you take both to heart. I am dedicated to updating this site at least 3 times a week, and I am not going to fall behind even if traffic isn't paying off. There are too many Detroit Sports Blogs that have one or two posts and then stop (sportingdetroit.blogspot.com, alldetroit.blogspot.com). This site won't give up, just like the people of Detroit won't give up in these tough times. Enjoy the First Post.

The Onslaught Of Frustration More so than other seasons, the Lions this season have been a straight embarrassment to Detroit. At 0-12, and not giving any NFL team any trouble defeating them, positive energy is difficult to come by when talking about the Lions. That’s why on Monday Night Football this week, Steve Young was able to come up with a new put down, “Man, even the Lions looked more like they wanted to be there than the Jags.” Hard to believe any Lion wanted to be on the field last Thursday, especially knowing that they were going to be playing against the one loss, best record in the league Titans, but that just brews the question, what the hell is going on with the Jags? Or wait, maybe its just Steve Young delivering one final blow as the Lions become a complete mockery/joke of a team and a franchise.
